The Effects Of Smoking On Our Lives - 1210 Words

Since the start of my education and ability to understand, I’ve always been taught to accept others despite their differences. I’ve learned to not judge people based on appearances but their actions. For some time I never found myself having issues with those who smoked. However, once I started getting older I became more aware of all the little nuisances that came with smoking. The smoke, behaviors and health concerns began to stand out to the point where it seemed like there were flashing signs above those who smoked. Once I learned in-depth about all the hazards, I became much more aware of how much I did not like cigarettes and how I began to dislike their users. Now my everyday life is, ironically, surrounded by these users. Every day†¦show more content†¦There’s a great fear knowing that their lives can be cut down by fourteen years because of their habit. My belief is that people who do partake in smoking are doing it for leisure. I think since smoking cigarettes have been glorified as being cool and trendy that many tend to participate because â€Å"everyone else is doing it†. For me, that seems illogical and leads to the assumption that people who smoke are carless. Those who are willing to risk their lives every day over a piece of paper and toxic glue can be unreasonable. Most if not all people who chose to smoke know the risks, yet they let an addiction begin anyway. That’s where the confusion comes in. I cannot understand why someone would be willing to take those chances. It’s challenging to see the people I love the most go through such an addiction. My best friend of eleven years has recently started smoking cigarettes. I remember when we were still children pledging to say no to smoking and now years later she has become a victim of cigarettes. The thing is, she uses cigarettes as a recreational use and has no real purpose of lighting one. I can’t comprehend why she does that, and despite multiple efforts to ask her to stop, she still uses cigarettes. Since she has upped her dosage to almost finishing her pack of cigarettes a day, I can no longer find the tolerance to hang out with her. Cigarettes are taking the ones I love away from me.
